How to Get Rid of Pet Odor in Your Carpet? Getting rid of pet odor in your carpet can be a challenge. It is important to know how to remove it so you do not have to deal with the hassle. The first thing you want to do is make sure that your carpet is not being damaged by some other type of stain or dirt that may already be on it.

One of the most perplexing challenges any homeowner may face is the difficulty of eliminating pet odor from their carpeting. If you have relocated to a house with predominant pet odors and stains, or if you are a pet owner who has to face these problems regularly, here are a few tips for tackling the problem of eliminating pet odor from your carpeting.

Types of Cleaning Method needed to Remove the Stain

There are two different types of carpet cleaning methods you can use to clean your carpet. The first method can be used to eliminate odor if there are no stains on the carpet. This method is called, “The Dry Cleaning Method.” This kind of carpet cleaning involves the use of moisture-free solvents to eliminate dirt and filth while removing pet odor. This is a quick and easy solution to removing odor and dirt left from your pet,

The next type of carpet cleaning is, “Hot Water Extraction”. Hot water extraction scrub pushes warm water onto the fabric and washing agents to absorb debris. Then the water, dirt, and other pet droppings are vacuumed for a spotless rinse. The extraction of hot water is more efficient than dry cleaning because it utilizes hot water and other cleaning solutions to remove stains and odors.

For New Stains

Place paper towels and cover it with newspaper to soak up as much urine as you can. Placed the newspaper even under the soiled field where appropriate. Stand for a minute on this fabric, then repeat until the place is lightly moist. Remember to never consider scrubbing the area vigorously. Deep scrubbing just pushes stains further into the fabric of the carpet. The only way to truly get rid of pet stains on carpet is to perform the saturation, drying, and light scrubbing cycle. Once you have completed this process, you can begin using your carpet cleaner to remove dirt, grime, and odor from the rest of your carpet.

Use a Neutralizer to Eliminate Odor

Neutralizers remove odor and helps prevent it from coming back again. Also, neutralizers contain natural chemicals that help make the area more comfortable and keep it in great condition for longer. There are many choices when it comes to neutralizers, so you want to find the right one for your needs that won’t damage your carpet.

Older Stains

For stains that have already set in, if you do not have a carpet cleaner, you will want to rent an efficient cleaner. Once you have gotten the carpet cleaner, find a cleaning solution that is compatible with the carpet cleaner. You want to make sure the cleaner specifies that it will remove pet stains as well as odor. If the area still looks stained after it is completely dry after extraction and neutralization, use a carpet stain remover.

Use a Light Vinegar Cleaning Solution

Vinegar neutralizes the scent of urine without deteriorating fabric threads, making it a healthy option to disinfect while preserving your carpet. You want to pour the solution gradually onto the stain portion of the carpet. To neutralize the region, make sure the solution hits the lower fibers in the fabric. After 10 minutes of letting the solution absorb into the carpet, you can use a wet vac or layer of paper towels to soak up the vinegar solution. After the carpet has completely dried you can sprinkle baking soda, or carpet powder with baking soda for 5 minutes to eliminate any odor. After 5 minutes of vacuum up the baking soda or carpet powder.

Things to Avoid

Do not use steam cleaners from furniture or upholstery to disinfect the urine odors in your carpet. By pressing the protein onto the man-made fibers, the heat would permanently hold the stain and the odor. Do not use purifying contaminants like ammonia. Strong chemical odors will enhance the scent mark of urine in that region. This will encourage your pet to continue to mark that same spot, causing continual staining and future ruining of your carpet.
